So here you find yourself. Unhappy, unmotivated, stuck, and don’t know what to do next or where to turn… So you’ve turned to a blog post to give you answers to fix yourself! You feel like you’ve tried so many things, school, jobs, being positive and for some reason nothing works out. You’re stuck, and no matter what you do you cant seem to move forward in your life! Then you’ve come to the right place. because that was me and this is how I finally got out. The steps below will change your life and help you become the person you’ve always wanted to be.
Step 1: Have the desire to change
Congratulations! If you’re reading this you likely already have this step covered. You are willing to do what it takes to get unstuck and find yourself living the life you’ve always wanted. This step is about taking a look at where you are and realizing you are not happy. It takes courage to begin to step into the uncomfortable and do things that the very idea of may make your skin crawl. But little by little it gets easier and you see yourself becoming someone new, a better version of yourself.
Step 2: Daily Affirmations
Yes, I’m serious. This step may seem cheesy and stupid but it is completely necessary. Whether you chose to create a list of affirmations your own or find an audio/ video that you like doesn’t matter. Listen to it everyday. Make that a simple goal you can achieve. Maybe it’s one week or 30 days. Whatever you can commit to but stick with it. You may find in the beginning you resent the idea of listening to it, hate the forced positively, and can’t help but talk back to yourself negatively when the affirmations tell you how great you are. This is a sign that you need to stick with. Stay with it until you begin to feel the affirmations as truth.
- Personally for me This video did just that.
Step 3: Journal Daily
If you’re like me, chances are you’ve tired this before and didn’t stay with it. You’re thinking how is journaling going to actually get me a new job, a lover, hope. You’ve probably never done it right. When journaling I’m not talking about an Anne Frank style of writing down all that happened in your day, no, its about journaling with a purpose. Find a Journal that makes writing everyday easy. One that has prompts you can follow. One that has you starting your morning everyday finding something to be grateful for and what you can do today to make it a good day. You also need to reflect at the end of everyday. How did today go? What went well? What didn’t go well? What can I do to make tomorrow better?
Find a journal that speaks to you or create your own.
This step is important for reconnecting with yourself. It’s about taking a good look in the mirror and being honest with yourself about where you are and what you really want. Be thankful for what you already have. Find out who you are again, what brings you joy, and where you want to go. Get clear on it!
Step 4: Cutting Out Toxic Relationships
This one is probably going to be the hardest. We get so comfortable with the people in our lives even if they are bringing us down. Sometimes especially if they bring us down. Often, we are not even aware they are bringing us down, but steps 1-3 can help to open your eyes.So what is a “toxic Relationship” This term is definitely over used. A toxic relationship can be many things but usually one that makes you feel unsupported, misunderstood, demeaned, or attacked. Maybe it’s as simple as a relationship that just doesn’t make you feel good, and you deserve to feel good. So take a close look at all your relationships and move on from the ones that don’t value you or or serve you. Whether it’s a significant other, a friend, coworker, or even family; it’s ok to let them go ( actually its crucial ). You will not be able to move on if others are literally holding you back. As you start to grow they may resent that change and will try harder to bring you back down to where they are. Don’t have to insult them or tell them off you just need to move on.
You are who you hang around.
Step 5 : Overhaul what you Consume
The content you consume plays a huge roll on how you feel, and how you feel is who you are. Stop doom scrolling on social media and comparing yourself to others perfectly curated images. Stop consuming the News first thing in the morning when it’s only shows you what is wrong in the world and keeps you angry. Stop watching dark content. If you feel like shit and depressed everyday but go to bed watching murder mysteries shows you are do nothing to help you brain thrive. You are sending you distress signals to your brain every-time you consume content such as this.
Instead, find content that makes you happy. Light hearted comedy is your down time. Start reading books that are informative and help reinforce the journey you are on.
Step 6: Get Outside and Move Everyday
Yes, I’m talking Exercise and sunlight. Doesn’t have to be intense but adding daily movement to your life will give you a sense of accomplishment everyday. Overtime it will aid in physical and mental changes. It can be hiking, walking, yoga, stretching; it doesn’t matter just do something everyday.
Step 7: Welcome to the New You
So You’ve done steps 1-6 and have put in consist work. Those around you have noticed that you seem lighter and happier, Yay its working! Embrace this new person you have become, but be careful because the work is not over. This is when its curial to not get comfortable. Don’t mistake the being comfortable with being done with this journey or you will fall off track and back slide into your old ways. Find new goals to work toward, new hobbies, new friends. Keep pushing yourself and your goals forward everyday.
Life is a journey! Embrace the opportunity to grow and learn everyday and don’t look back!
“Life changes. You lose love. You lose friends. You lose pieces of yourself that you never imagined would be gone. And then, without you even realizing it, these pieces come back. New love enters. Better friends come along. And a stronger, wiser you is staring back in the mirror.”
